Although its antimicrobial technology is typically undetected by the naked eye, Microban no longer wanted to be the invisible half of partner products. The brand tapped Union to design a consumer-facing platform to serve as an educational tool and partner portfolio for the brand.

Microban

Our designers wanted the virtual walkthrough to be as convenient as possible so that users wouldn’t have to leave the website to gather additional product information. With thirty-nine items in the kitchen alone, it was important to find a balance between pop-up content and imagery. By using web GL technology, a series of fallbacks would work against graceful degradation of browsers so that none of the renderings would ever be static–a handy workaround to keep the user experience intact.

Microban has partnered with brands like Bissell, New Balance and Moen, adding its ingredient in the manufacturing process to create cleaner, longer-lasting versions of their products. Despite its B2B status, Microban wanted to provide consumers a digital experience separate from its flagship website to illuminate its presence in products they’re already buying. Looking to build a website that could withstand high traffic volumes from a global audience and accommodate multiple languages, Union developed a new, interactive microsite called "The Cleaner Home" – modeled from scratch with home-life illustrations throughout.

Breaking the Mold

Background

The heart of the website was the 3D interaction that acted as a world of knowledge visitors could enter freely. At launch, two rooms of the Cleaner Home were fully equipped floor to ceiling. Using custom 3D models, we saved room for placeholders so that rooms and products could be rolled out later on. We were able to plot hot spots in the 3D models using an XY axis to then be rendered by the CMS.

Immersive Experience

Blog content housed on the website was consumer-oriented, consisting of educational pieces to spread awareness and bolster Microban’s expertise. Easily understood language was employed to overcome the more high-level aspects of the technology as well as help change the conversation about chemicals in consumer homes.
