The More We Grow, the More Ways We Can Give Back

Our agency has been a part of the Charlotte community ever since we got our start in 2002. While we spend most of our work hours focused on digital marketing projects for brands that want more, we also make a point to take time for organizations in our city that need more.
“Union has grown up into a team of more than 70 passionate individuals,” says Union President Banks Wilson. “That means we have more than 70 ways to help the community we work in.” 
We’re fans of variety, so we make a point to split up and cover more ground in our community during the select team-bonding days (called <a href="https://union.co/about/careers">Studio Days</a>) that are charity-focused.
Earlier this year, after fueling up on grilled cheese from the beloved Papi Queso food truck, we went in teams to volunteer onsite with different Charlotte-based charities near our new office. Our goal is to directly impact organizations in and around our FreeMoreWest neighborhood. Our stops:
-<a href="https://www.charlotterestore.org/"> Habitat for Humanity Charlotte ReStore</a>, which sells low-cost home items to support families in our community. Here, we helped the staff with tasks to support the store’s operations. 
- <a href="https://medassist.org/">NC Med Assist</a>, which provides free prescription medications to our low-income, uninsured neighbors. We spent time in their warehouse, organizing supplies and paperwork in preparation for a mobile, free pharmacy event. 
- <a href="https://www.classroomcentral.org/">Classroom Central</a>, which provides free school supplies to teachers to improve their students’ learning processes. Onsite, we unloaded supplies from trucks and helped more than 100 teachers shop for supplies. 
- <a href="https://www.handsoncharlotte.org/">Hands On Charlotte</a>, our local volunteer network backed by <a href="https://uwcentralcarolinas.org/">United Way of Central Carolinas</a>. Back at the Union office, we sorted 250 snack packs through Hands On Charlotte to support students at a local Title One school, where 60 percent of the kids get free or reduced lunch.

With the help of every team member, we’re working to build on our tradition of giving back. Last year, we made donations and volunteered time to our local charities. To encourage passion for creativity and careers in the digital space, we also awarded our Annual Kelly Somey Digital Marketing Scholarship to a college-bound student interested in our industry.
As we continue to evolve as a company, we also aim to elevate our community impact. <a href="https://union.co/articles/2019-kelly-somey-digital-marketing-scholarship">This year’s scholarship</a> will be awarded by fall and, this summer, our team will help kick off a local giving campaign. “While our goal every day in the office is to create inspiring and impactful work for our clients, we also strive to do the same for our community,” Wilson says. “That’s a key part of our culture.”
