Union’s President Receives AAF Charlotte’s Silver Medal Award

Banks Wilson, Charlotte native and president of <a href="http://www.union.co">Union</a>, a creative and performance agency, was just awarded AAF Charlotte’s Silver Medal Award. The <a href="https://www.aafcharlotte.com/2021-silver-medal-award">award</a> was created in 1959 to recognize people who have made outstanding contributions to advertising while furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. <a href="https://www.aafcharlotte.com/past-silver-medal-award-winners">Former winners</a> of the award include Jennifer Appleby, David Oakley, Steve Luquire, and many other talented Charlotte advertising professionals.

Since founding Union (formerly Studiobanks) as a designer in 2002, Wilson has grown a small team focused on website design into a fully integrated agency that creates omni-channel campaigns, unleashing creativity on a data-driven world, helping brands produce memorable, measurable and repeatable results. And what started with one healthcare data client has evolved into a breadth of clients across the health &amp; wellness, food &amp; beverage, and travel &amp; tourism industries.
Through the growth, Banks has transitioned from a creative director to a creatively-minded business owner, but his love for advertising stays the same. "You can be really creative with it” he said. “Creative in funny ways, creative in solving problems, creative in moving ways. And, as someone who once dreamed of being an architect, I enjoy building something to put out into the world."

That includes building a team that’s helped Union win more than 100 advertising awards to date in categories such as cross-platform/branded content and online/interactive/consumer websites.
That includes building a culture that’s won two Charlotte Observer Top Workplaces recognitions and continues to thrive despite nearly a year of remote work.
That includes building a stronger community in Charlotte. Not only is Wilson on the board of directors for the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, McColl Center for Art + Innovation and the Olympic High School Foundation, but he and the Union team are involved every year in local charitable projects with organizations like the United Way, Second Harvest Food Bank and Classroom Central.
It’s what Wilson has built that has brought the Silver Medal Award to his hands this year, which he received during the virtual American Advertising Awards Gala on Feb. 25.
